short stories (the silk scarf)
Setting
The story took place in Oriental plaza in Johannesburg. This was in South Africa during Apartheid time . The shops in this shopping centre were owned by Indians. This was a time that the new government took over.
Main character
The main character was Mrs Nebo. The was a wife to a new official. She was rich and she was of high class. The was also of medium height with a smoothed skin complexion. She had heavy loins and she had a friend called Mgaret.
Plot
Mrs Nebo and her friend Margaret came out of the Mercedes benz. They entered the shopping center and they were followed by two bodyguards. They looked arounnd and they bought shoes and jewellery. They came accross a shop were Mrs Nebo found a nice dress. She wanted it to look prety on her so she also wanted a matching scarf. She couldnt find one in the same shop she found the garment. They walked from shop to shop and they came to Mr Sakurs shop were Mrs Nebo saw the matching silk scarf.
Mrs Nebo reached for the money in her bag and unfortunately it was not enough. She told mr sakur that she could pay with a cheque. Mr sakur told her that he does not accept cheques, as Mrs Nebo was used to paying with cheque to other shops, she couldnt understand the shopkeeper. She felt insulted as she had a lot of money. With Margaret defending her friend and everything they and the other people say, Mr Sakur was not afraid and he kept stuck to his rule. The other shopkeepers decided to buy the scarf as a gift to Mrs Nebo and she was very happy.

Through the Tunnel
SettingTime: It was summer time, during holiday time.
Place: On the beach, and it also took place in the villa.
Main character
Main character is Jerry. He was an eleven year old english boy. He went to the beach with his mother. He was a good swimmer. His mother bought him swimming googles. He made friends with some big boys that he found on the beach. He was jealous of the older boys when he watched them as they swam through through a rock. He felt weak and dizzy because he stayed in the water for so long. He achieved his goal by swimming through the tunnel.
Summary
Through the Tunnel is the story written by Dorris Lessing. This story is about Jerry, an eleven-year-old English boy. They were on holiday at the beach with his mother.In the beginning of the story, Jerry and his mother were both concerned about each other.Jerry decided that he wanted to be able to swim through the tunnel as the other older boys that he met at the beach. but he didn't know if he ccould make it. He wanted to prove that he is man enough to swim through the tunnel in the rock. His mother bought him swimming goggles. Jerry knew at first, that he would not be able to swim throughout the tunnel without taking a breath of air, he was so weak and dizzy because he stayed in the water for a long time, so he did exercises that resolved his problem. Finally Jerry swum through the tunnel, he reached his goal although he was doubting it at first.
